Your past doesn't have to define your future

Trauma-informed therapy that helps you reclaim your sense of safety, trust, and wholeness

When your body remembers what your mind never forgets

Is your nervous system is stuck in survival mode?

Everyday sounds make you jump. Sleep feels impossible when your brain won't turn off the hypervigilance.

You might feel disconnected from yourself and others, like you're watching your life from behind glass.

Maybe you've been told to "just get over it" or "move on," but your body holds the memories even when your mind tries to push them away.

Healing is about integration and reclaiming your right to feel safe in your own skin.

Your nervous system learned to protect you in the best way it knew how. Now we can teach it that safety is possible.

Types of Trauma I Work With

Acute Trauma
Single-incident events that shattered your sense of safety—accidents, assaults, sudden losses, or medical emergencies that left lasting impacts on how you move through the world
Complex Trauma
Repeated experiences that happened over time, often in relationships where you should have been safe. This includes childhood abuse, neglect, or ongoing domestic violence.
Developmental Trauma
Early life experiences that disrupted your ability to form secure attachments and trust. The wounds that formed when your developing brain needed safety but found chaos instead.
Intergenerational Trauma
Trauma patterns passed down through families and communities. Sometimes you carry pain that isn't even yours, inherited through stories, silence, or survival strategies.
Medical & Birth Trauma
When medical procedures, chronic illness, or birth experiences left you feeling helpless, violated, or unsafe in your own body.
Vicarious Trauma
Absorbing the trauma of others through your work, relationships, or exposure to traumatic content. Your empathy became a pathway for others' pain to enter your system.

How Trauma Healing Works

Trauma lives in the body, not just the mind.

That's why traditional talk therapy sometimes isn't enough.

We work with your nervous system, helping you develop a sense of safety and choice that may have been missing during your traumatic experiences.

Healing happens slowly, in relationship, and at your pace. You'll never be pushed to go faster than feels safe, and you'll always have choice and control in our work together.

We focus on building your capacity to be present with difficult emotions while maintaining a sense of groundedness and safety.

Treatment Approaches I Use

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Helps you identify and challenge trauma-related thought patterns like "I'm not safe," "It's my fault," or "I can't trust anyone."

We work together to recognize when trauma thoughts are driving your responses and develop more accurate, balanced ways of thinking about yourself, others, and the world.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Focuses on building practical skills for managing trauma triggers, intense emotions, and dissociation.

Perfect for when trauma responses feel overwhelming and you need concrete tools for staying grounded and present in your body.

Mindfulness techniques

Trauma lives in the body, so we use mindfulness and body-based approaches to help you reconnect with physical sensations safely.

These techniques help you distinguish between past and present, and rebuild trust in your body's signals.

Family/couples therapy

Trauma affects relationships, and relationships can be part of healing.

We work together to address how trauma impacts your connections with others, improve communication about your needs, and help loved ones understand how to support your healing.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps your brain process traumatic memories so they feel less charged and intrusive.

Through bilateral stimulation, we help move stuck trauma from your emotional brain to your thinking brain, reducing flashbacks and emotional overwhelm.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

Allows for gently confronting trauma-related thoughts and memories in a safe environment, helping reduce avoidance and anxiety.

Hi there, I'm Danielle Widmann

Founder of Holding Space Mental Health Counseling
Trauma often teaches us that the world isn't safe and that we can't trust ourselves or others.

As someone who specializes in trauma recovery, I understand that your survival responses developed for good reasons—they kept you alive.

My approach is deeply rooted in the understanding that you are not broken. Your responses make perfect sense given what you've experienced. Together, we'll honor your survival while gently expanding your capacity for joy, connection, and presence.

I believe healing happens in relationship, and our therapeutic relationship will be a place where you can experience safety, choice, and attunement—perhaps for the first time.

Your Path to Healing

Simple Steps to Get Started

Ready to start healing?

Trauma wants you to believe you're too broken, too damaged, or that it's too late. But your capacity for healing is greater than your trauma.

You don't have to carry this alone anymore.
